Named after Tina Turner’s 1980’s
hit single, ‘Simply The Best’, is a year-by-year extravaganza of
everything that was new, novel, fascinating and fun in a decade that also
witnessed its fair share of conflict, peace and discovery - and a great
deal more besides...
The
show includes over 20 classic hand-clapping, foot-stomping hits from
artistes including Buggles, Hall & Oates, Madonna, Queen, Spandau
Ballet, Status Quo and Tears For Fears.
Also featured is a bounty of
classic side-splitting film and television comedy with live on-stage
excerpts from ‘ALLO ALLO’, 'HI-DE-HI’ and 'BLACKADDER
II'.
There
is a section dedicated to eighties musicals including ‘Phantom of the Opera’,
‘Starlight Express’, ‘Chess’, ‘Miss Saigon’ and ‘Les Misérables’
and also a generous helping of year-by-year news, views, nostalgia and
reminiscences with live video footage of key events including the Royal
Wedding of Prince Charles to Lady Diana Spencer, the US Presidential
Election with speeches by Ronald Reagan and the toppling of the Berlin
Wall.
Memorable
TV advertisements of the eighties including 'Cadbury's Flake', 'Yellow
Pages', 'Fry's Turkish Delight', Cadbury's Milk Tray and 'The Age of the Train' are also featured.
As with its two
predecessors, the idea for the show came from Stone Little Theatre
founder member, Neil
Norman and following months of extensive research by a dedicated
team of members who assembled all the facts for the story, the final
script was written by Stone Little Theatre Director, Chris
C Bell.
“As with our 2002 and
2003 productions, we’ve piggy-backed on a tried and tested
award-winning formula to put together what we feel will be a show
that’s probably the best yet”, commented Chris. “We’ve had to
overcome many hurdles along the way, the main problem being to gain
permission to use the various television and film extracts. Having
resolved all these, the group is now working hard on the actual staging
of the show which promises to be a great evening’s entertainment.”
